Marliana is also the birthplace and chosen refuge of many artists. One of the most famous and established is contemporary artist Massimo Biagi, who was born in the very village of Marliana in 1949.
Here Massimo Biagi lives and works in his studio overlooking the beautiful valley. Between 1975 and 1995 he was a leading exponent of Graphicism. While his interest in artists' books dates back to 1993, a theme on which he worked for the exhibition "Libri D'artista" presented at the "Luigi Pecci" Center for Contemporary Art in Prato and later at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. His works can be found at Giuliano Gori's Celle Museum and in many private collections.
